in der veranstaltungsreihe geht es um verwandschaft oder auch vertrauens / verantwortungs beziehungen zu anderen lebewesen in unserer umgebung. praktisch umgesetzt in kostümen die diese lebewesen imitieren (ihr aussehen oder andere eigenschaften) um sich einerseits besser in sie hinein versetzen zu können und andererseits ihre existenz im öffentlichen raum sichtbar zu machen. die kostüme sollen für den klimagerechtigkeits aktivismus eingesetzt werden und die träger*innen dabei auf unterschiedliche weise schützen.

außerdem wurden menschen eingeladen, die sich mit einer anderen spezies auseinandergesetzt haben oder andere geschichten zum thema klima gerechtigkeit zu erzählen haben.

english:

the event series is about kinship or trust/responsibility relationships to other living beings in our environment. practically implemented in costumes that imitate these creatures (their appearance or other characteristics) in order to better put ourselves in their place and to make their existence visible in public space. the costumes are to be used for climate justice activism and protect the wearers in different ways.

furthermore, people who have dealt with another species or have other stories to tell about climate justice have been invited to the event series.

making kin / sich verwand machen mit anderen lebewesen :

in diesem workshop geht es darum sich umzuschauen, mit wem lebst du in unmittelbarer nähe, aber hast keine ahnung was sie so machen? In diesem fall sind einmal andere als menschliche lebewesen gemeint. also pflanzen, insekten, mikroorganismen, weichtiere, pilze. durch die menschen gemachte klima krise verändert sich unser lebensraum aber auch der unser nachbar*innen. viele sind sogar vom aussterben bedroht, weil wir ihre lebensräume verändern und nutzen ohne etwas zurück zu geben. In dem verwandschafts workshop soll es darum gehen verantwortungs / vertrauensbeziehungen zu diesen lebewesen aufzubauen, und unser verständnis von familie zu erweitern, damit wir uns in zukunft über die konsequenzen unseres handelns bewusster sind. wir fragen uns was ihre bedürfnisse sind, was wir konkret tun können um uns für diese einzusetzen und welche geschichte die menschheit vielleicht schon mit dem lebewesen hat. überlegt euch gerne schon vorher eine spezies, die euch in eurer umgebung auffällt.

making kin / making yourself related to other living beings :

in this workshop it is about looking around, with whom do you live in close proximity, but have no idea what they are doing? in this case we mean other creatures than human beings. plants, insects, microorganisms, molluscs, fungi. due to the man-made climate crisis our habitat is changing but also the habitat of our neighbors. many of them are even threatened with extinction because we are changing and using their habitats without giving anything back. the kinship workshop is about building relationships of responsibility / trust with these creatures, and broadening our understanding of family so that we are more aware of the consequences of our actions in the future. we ask ourselves what their needs are, what we can do concretely to advocate for them, and what we can do to help.

mit Beatriz Oria

Beatriz Oria hat sich im rahmen ihrer masterarbeit (produktdesign) mit dem japanischen staudenknöterich beschäftigt und hinterfragt darin die mit der pflanze verbundenen, in der biologie und umgangsprache verwendeten begriffe. die durch menschen verursachten problematik der invasivität, und die behandlung der pflanze als bedrohung. sie möchte die terminologie und damit auch den umgang mit neophyten verändern, indem sie diese zum beispiel in unseren speiseplan einbringt, damit textilien färbt, oder papier herstellt. dafür hat sie workshops entwickelt in denen sie über die thematik aufklärt und gleichzeitig lösungswege haptisch erfahrbar macht und einen austausch über zusammenhängende themen wie biodiversitätsverlust, umweltbewusstsein,migration und globalisierung anregt.
für die veranstaltungsreihe wird sie einen dieser workshops anbieten.

as part of her master's thesis (product design), Beatriz Oria has dealt with japanese knotweed. she questions the terms associated with the plant, used in biology and everyday language. the problem of invasiveness caused by humanity, and the treatment of the plant as a threat. she would like to change the terminology and with it the way we deal with neophytes. for example by introducing them into our menu, dyeing textiles with them, or making paper with the fiber. for this she has also developed workshops in which she educates about the topic and at the same time makes it possible to experience solutions haptically and stimulate an exchange on interrelated topics such as biodiversity loss, environmental awareness, migration and globalization. for the event series she will offer the dyeing workshop.

masken & kopfschutz basteln / crafting mascs & head protection

mit suna yoo

in diesem workshop geht es darum unsere köpfe mit ohren und augen, während unseres aktivismus zu schützen. indem wir uns eine maske basteln die ein uns verwandtes lebewesen imitiert. abhängig davon welche art von aktivismus ihr praktiziert / praktizieren wollt. das kann von künstlerisch performativem protest über bildungsarbeit bis zur direkten aktion gehen (und natürlich alles dazwischen). mit dieser maske schützen wir aber nicht nur uns selbst, sondern wollen gleichzeitig unsere kin species (verwandte art) im öffentlichen raum representieren und ihre bedürfnisse sichtbar machen. die masken werden aus wiederverwendeten materialien wie bspw. alten schaumstoff matratzen, kaputte tshirts, knoblauch / obstnetze, plastikflaschen. diese werden mit hilfe von techniken wie nähen, häkeln, flechten, knoten, weben, binden oder kleben mit einander verbunden. bring gerne materialien oder alte helme mit.

this workshop is about protecting our heads with ears and eyes during our activism. by making a mask that imitates a kin species. depending on what kind of activism you practice / want to practice. this can go from artistic performative protest to educational work to direct action (and of course everything in between). with this mask we not only protect ourselves, but at the same time we want to represent our kin species (related species) in the public space and make their needs visible. the masks will be made of recycled materials such as old foam mattresses, broken t-shirts, garlic / fruit nets, plastic bottles. these will be connected to each other using techniques such as sewing, crocheting, braiding, knotting, weaving, binding or gluing. you´re welcome to bring some material also helmets might work.

What is the current situation in Lützerath, when is an acute eviction imminent and why is it actually so important that this village stays? We will address these topics at an open plenary session on the situation in the Rhenish lignite mining area.

in his bachelor thesis (media culture), Max Königshofen focused on the decolonization of science fiction through (post)-dystopian scenarios of Indigenous futurisms in the context of climate crisis and climate genocide induced by neocolonial capitalism. in his lecture, he will screen the film "Reclamation" (TJ Cuthand, 2018, https://vimeo. com/279943832), which is about an Indigenous future on earth once all white people set out to colonize mars after climate wars and the extraction of the last remaining fossil fuels. it is also about responsibility and the power of storytelling in imagining and shaping the future. he also writes: "disclaimer: i am nonIndigenous and therefore not an expert on Indigenous futurisms or anything like that. i am there primarily as a climate activist trying to think about a future after the colonial-capitalist dystopia, incorporating Indigenous perspectives and reflecting my own positioning as a white european cis male. this also includes thinking about what scholar and activist Kyle Powys Whyte calls the Indigenous "ancestral dystopia", being contrasted with the colonial fantasies of the ancestors of europeans and white settlers, the "ancestral fantasies" of power, progress, superiority and accumulation of wealth."

Max Königshofen hat sich in seiner bachelorarbeit (medienkultur) mit der dekolonisierung von science fiction durch (post)-dystopische szenarien Indigener futurismen im kontext von neokolonial-kapitalistisch bedingter klimakrise und klimagenozid beschäftigt. in seinem vortrag wird er uns den film „Reclamation“ (TJ Cuthand, 2018, https://vimeo.com/279943832) zeigen, in dem es um eine Indigene zukunft auf der erde geht, in der weiße menschen sich nach klimakriegen und extraktion der verbleibenden fossilen ressourcen daran machen, den mars zu kolonisieren. es geht außerdem um verantwortlichkeit und die macht des geschichtenerzählens bei vorstellung und gestaltung der zukunft. er schreibt außerdem: „disclaimer: ich bin non-Indigenous und deshalb kein experte für Indigenous futurisms oder irgendwas in der art. ich bin in erster linie als klimaaktivist da, der versucht, über eine zukunft nach der kolonial-kapitalistischen dystopie nachzudenken und dabei Indigene perspektiven einzubeziehen und auch meine eigene positionierung als weißer europäischer cis-mann zu reflektieren. dazu gehört auch, darüber nachzudenken, dass dem, was wissenschaftler und aktivist Kyle Powys Whyte die »ancestral dystopia«, die dystopie der Indigenen vorfahren nennt, auch die kolonialen fantasien der vorfahren von europäer*innen und weißen siedler*innen, die »ancestral fantasies« von herrschaft, fortschritt, überlegenheit und bereicherung gegenüberstehen.“

“Rubber trees & the materiality of the unseen”

Sarah Alvim, presents the topic of her master thesis (media art), through the case of rubber trees, she exemplifies how the story of plants is also the history of people. She examines human-plant relationships built due to colonialism and how exoticism applies to both humans and plants. These stories are a way to connect a household plant with the history of exploitation of people and vegetation, in wild extractivism and plantations. It is about economic botany, biopiracy and what does the colonization from the Amazon region has to to do with the colonization of Southeast Asian countries.
Recovery of history can be a political act. It grants comprehension of the present and widens our prospects for the different futures we want to fight for.

Sarah Alvim stellt das Thema ihrer Masterarbeit (Medienkunst) vor. Am Beispiel von Gummibäumen zeigt sie, dass die Geschichte der Pflanzen auch die Geschichte der Menschen ist. Sie untersucht die Beziehungen zwischen Mensch und Pflanze, die durch den Kolonialismus entstanden sind, und wie der Exotismus sowohl für Menschen als auch für Pflanzen gilt. Diese Geschichten sind eine Möglichkeit, eine Hauspflanze mit der Geschichte der Ausbeutung von Menschen und Pflanzen in der Wildnis und in Plantagen zu verbinden. Es geht um Wirtschaftsbotanik, Biopiraterie und darum, was die Kolonialisierung des Amazonasgebiets mit der Kolonialisierung südostasiatischer Länder zu tun hat.
Die Aufarbeitung der Geschichte kann ein politischer Akt sein. Sie ermöglicht ein Verständnis für die Gegenwart und erweitert unsere Perspektiven für die verschiedenen Zukünfte, für die wir kämpfen wollen.

schutz / Rucksack basteln crafting protection /backpack

in diesem workshop geht es darum unsere rücken, hintern, nacken und andere extremitäten mit hilfe von polsterung, oder rucksäcken vor gewalteinwirkung, dem wetter, langem sitzen oder ganz anderen gefahren zu schützen. es geht nicht unbedingt darum dass das tatsächlich der fall ist. sondern die reale möglichkeit damit künstlerisch zu symbolisieren. mit diesen kostümteilen sollen andere spezies imitiert werden, zum beispiel die kopfschilde von küchenschaben, oder die abwerfbaren schwänze von einigen reptilien. die rutschige oberfläche von schnecken oder die bunte musterung eines schwalbenschwanz schmetterlings. die kostüme werden mithilfe von upcycling materialien hergestellt und in dem herstellungsprozess wollen wir uns mit einem anders asl menschlichen lebewesen auseinandersetzen. bringt gerne materialien mit und falls ihr habt, 1 (alten) rucksack.

this workshop is about protecting our backs, buttocks, neck and other extremities from violence, the weather, sitting for long periods of time or other dangers with the help of padding, or backpacks. it's not necessarily about that actually being the case. but to symbolize the real possibility with it, artistically. these costume parts are meant to imitate other species, for example the head shields of kitchen cockroaches, or the droppable tails of some reptiles. the slippery surface of snails or the colorful patterning of a swallowtail butterfly. the costumes are made using upcycled materials and we want to find out about an other than human creature in the process. you´re welcome to bring material and a (old) backpack, if you have one.
